They are often just plain wrong -- Other times, she interprets things in the most heinous, unrealistic way possible. If my mayor were named Obama's or McCain's VP pick (really he could go either way), this woman would have a letter out all over the Internet. It would inaccurately portray my mayor and his values, possibly to the same level of accusing him of threatening to fire someone if x didn't happen....

I take this letter with that grain of salt. We need to hear corroborating stories coming out of Wasilla before we can begin to trust this story. Someone needs to ask that librarian point blank whether Palin threatened to fire her. It is absolutely common for residents to just not understand what's going on at City Hall.
In my local paper we have a section called speakout where people call in and talk about what they want and from what I have seen there are those who get things backwards most of the time. They are either behind what is going on or they attribute things to the wrong party as to what happened.

Yeah, I've seen dozens of letters written to the editors of our local newpaper by a clown who still calls Bush the "selected not elected" president. And that makes it reliable info?

I honestly think libs will be making that a tag line even in a landslide victory with any candidate.

If McCain were to win and have 66% they would call it fraud or that the voters were ignorant. And get ready for 4 years of unfunny SNL skits with him and Palin. Man I miss that show being funny.

Yeah, when I used to get the local rag it would be the funniest part of the paper. That was the ONLY part of the paper that was worth reading.

That is what bugs me the most about elections. The dems always accuse Republicans of the same B-S THEY actually practice.

In my area it seems that towns have gone to hiring a city administrator who does the actual work and the current mayor of the town next to mine had gotten rid of him so that he could do the work.

As for what RD said about administrators since this seems to be a fashion nowadays it is not impossible to see it but I also think RD was a liar in most things.

No matter what you tell them, no matter what you write about how things work, no matter what the truth of the matter is, people often refuse to see reality.

Our local police do not receive a single dime from the tickets its officers write. I can pull out the city's actual budget document and trace ticket revenue. I've shown them this. And they'll still insist to me there's something fishy and crooked about our cops, that the cops have a quota because they need or simply want that revenue. (Fortunately, in our case, police funding is entirely by a special operating levy that goes before voters every four years. It receives nothing from the city's general fund where a portion of ticket revenue ends up. It makes it easier to show that the cops aren't writing tickets to fund their department.)

I see this in a wide variety of areas and topics, in our letters to the editor or in personal conversations.

That's why I won't trust a single letter by a single citizen of Wasilla; although I think RD and I both found sources to indicate that the letter was true regarding the library.
