A Muslim imam behind a proposed cultural center two blocks from New York's Ground Zero said he must build there despite angry protests in order to defend America and its citizens against a "danger from the radicals in the Muslim world to our national security."

If he could start over, Imam Faisal Abdul Rauf said, he would propose a different site for his project.

"If I knew this would happen, that this would cause this kind of pain, I wouldn't have done it," Rauf, 61, said in an interview with CNN's Soledad O'Brien on "Larry King Live" Wednesday evening. "My life has been dedicated to peacemaking."

But, capping a daylong rhetorical offensive that began Wednesday morning with an opinion piece in The New York Times, Rauf said he intends to go ahead with the "multifaith" center near the site where Islamic terrorists killed nearly 2,800 people because not doing so would unleash fury abroad.

"If we move from that location, the story will be that the radicals have taken over the discourse," Rauf told CNN. "The headlines in the Muslim world will be that Islam is under attack.

"There is a certain anger here [in America], no doubt," he said later in the interview. "But if we don't do this right, anger will explode in the Muslim world. If we don't do things correctly, this crisis could become much bigger than the Danish cartoon crisis [over images depicting the Prophet Mohammed], which resulted in attacks on Danish embassies in various parts of the Muslim world. And we have a much bigger footprint in the Muslim world."

Now, many on here believe the church burning the Korans should be stopped as this behavior may incite Muslims to violence. Imam Rauf has stated the mosque (Ha-mosque) needs to be built where it is intended to be built (near Ground Zero), or terror will explode. He basically gave the U.S. an ultimatum with the threat of terror as a consequence.

Even if efforts resulted in a compromise and moving the location, should we give up those efforts and give in to not incite violence? Should we not allow anyone to protest the Ha-mosque so we won't incite Muslims to violence? Muslims find it offensive for a woman to not have an escort, reveal her body, and even be equal to men. Should we demand American women wear burkhas, have escorts, and treat them as property, so we won't incite Muslims to violence?

For 104 years, the bell at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church in hilly, blue-collar Manayunk has joyfully summoned the faithful to prayer, celebrated marriages, and marked the ends of wars.
Now, in a city whose many sacred symbols include a cracked bell, someone has filed a complaint to silence St. John's 5,000-pound bronze casting.
Not completely. Just in the morning. At 7. That's when it rings 18 times for the Angelus.
The official reason: It's too loud.

Too loud too early for Manayunk church bell, neighbor complains | Philadelphia Inquirer | 09/09/2010

I do not know what to think about this since Churches used to ring their bells all the time but reading the article the Church at one time rang it even during the night.

BEIJING — The U.S. has slipped down the ranks of competitive economies, falling behind Sweden and Singapore due to huge deficits and pessimism about government, a global economic group said Thursday.

Switzerland retained the top spot for the second year in the annual ranking by the Geneva-based World Economic Forum. It combines economic data and a survey of more than 13,500 business executives.

Sweden moved up to second place while Singapore stayed at No. 3. The United States was in second place last year after falling from No. 1 in 2008.

The WEF praised the United States for its innovative companies, excellent universities and flexible labor market. But it also cited huge deficits, rising government debt and declining public faith in politicians and corporate ethics.
There are a couple of things to note. Firstly, the solar Mean Field, which is the top line, went into the Solar Cycle 23/24 transition being neat and regular like a heartbeat, and has come out choppy and arrhythmic. Secondly, the F10.7 ramp up continues to be very flat indeed. The line of best fit of the F10.7 flux, currently at 82, equates to a sunspot number of 24. In terms of sunspot number, the rate of ramp up over the last year is 11 per annum. At two years into the cycle, this will be the maximum rate of increase we will get.

New research is suggesting the solar influence on climate/weather is not just about the overall heat output of the Sun which varies very little, but more about the atmospheric effects from extreme ultraviolet radiation (EUV). EUV can vary by as much as 16% over the solar cycle and this last solar minimum has seen the levels a lot lower than the previous solar minimum. EUV does it's thing in the upper atmosphere where it heats the Thermosphere and also creates Ozone, currently NASA is reporting the lowest recorded height of the Thermosphere and is at a loss at explaining all of the contributing factors. Others like Mike Lockwood are linking lower UV rates with changes in the polar jet streams that form a blocking effect on the normally warmer winds that occur in the northern hemisphere winter.

Large changes in the sun's energy output may drive unexpectedly dramatic fluctuations in Earth's outer atmosphere.

Results of a study published today link a recent, temporary shrinking of a high atmospheric layer with a sharp drop in the sun's ultraviolet radiation levels.

The research, led by scientists at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder, Colo., and the University of Colorado at Boulder (CU), indicates that the sun's magnetic cycle, which produces differing numbers of sunspots over an approximately 11-year cycle, may vary more than previously thought.

Our understanding of the influence of solar short-wavelength radiation on the Earth’s upper atmosphere is poorer than many realise. It is a significant area of research as some scientists believe that solar short-wave variations play a greater role in climatic variations than an initial analysis of the amplitude of those variations suggests, especially because of the fairly recent realisation that there are spectral variations as well as intensity variations in the short wavelength radiation coming from the sun.

There are a lot more to the Sun than Sunspots and Magnetic field strength,to be considering on how it effects the planets climate system.

Then we have this as well. Here the writer talks about a Solar system wide warming that is undeniable.
First off, it is very important to address the fact that Earth is not the only planet to be experiencing climate change in our solar system currently. In fact, many astronomers have announced that Pluto has been experiencing global warming, and suggested that it is a seasonal event, just like how Earth’s seasons change as the various hemispheres alter their inclination to the Sun. We must remember that it is the Sun that determines our seasons, and thusly has a greater impact upon the climate than we could ever even try to achieve.

Personally I find it amazing that this late in climate research. They are still in thrall with a trace gas with a trace absorption level of outgoing IR.While the Sun is the OBVIOUS dominant driver of the solar systems climates of the various bodies that orbits the Sun.

There are more evidence of a solar system wide warming than has been brought up.But the very evidence of it must be explored much more seriously than it has been, because there is no doubt that we get 99.99% of our energy from the sun.The same with ALL of the other planetary bodies in the system.

If many of the bodies are warming up,then it is quite reasonable to say that the more active Sun of the last 50 years is the main cause of that warming.

I am unaware of humans being on Mars,Jupiter,Pluto,Venus,Saturn and Triton recently to "pollute" the atmospheres with fossil based CO2 emissions. And causing the warming trend to happen.

Greetings everyone. First off I apologize for not being on here in a while. I was very busy towards the end of my contract in South Korea. I am back in the United States now and I see a lot has changed. Anyways, I am a man of the world so I hope to be back out in the world of international educator just as soon as possible. I will be getting my license while I'm at home which will give me more options. Here's a fun game to help me decide where to teach less (if applicable of course). What would be the country (besides America or other English speaking country) where you would love to live or visit? My ultimate goal has always been Italy. What do ya'll say?

People say it is only extremists who believe in Radical Islam.
This is a piece from Al Skudsi bin Hookah, roving reporter and foreign correspondent for The Gaza Gajeera.

I am very unhappy. Our way of life is under attack. And we are not fighting back. Deep down, we know that when a woman has disgraced her family, nothing will restore honor except by killing her. This is understood in Jordan, Syria, Yemen, Lebanon, Egypt, the Gaza strip and the West Bank. So why are we Arabs telling the Western press that honor killing is cultural, that it is not really part of Islam? Our way of life is based on maintaining our honor. And make no mistake about it: a woman does tarnish her family's honor by engaging in pre-marital sex, or by getting herself raped, when she seeks divorce and when she marries against her family's wishes.
It's not just religious leaders who know it's the right thing to do. Many of the most progressive political leaders are the ones who defend the practice. To maintain the integrity of our society and our traditions, we must maintain our honor by any and every means. And keeping our women pure is a big part of our honor. So there's no point saying honor killing isn't really part of our religion. Our religion isn't just what's in the Koran. Honor killings fit into the cultural context of today's Islamic teachings. Honor and Islam are inextricably bound; they are what give our life meaning. A strong religion demands we choose to maintain our honor.
The rest, here: MAINTAINING FAMILY HONOR

If you are under the misconception that most Muslims are peaceful and are not following the Koran, this is a must read.

In the wake of the battle over a mosque at Ground Zero, a move by the Hartford City Councilis sure to have its critics.

The Council announced Tuesday that it has invited local imams to perform Islamic invocations at the beginning of the Council meetings in September.

An e-mail from the Common Council called it "an act of solidarity with our Muslim brothers and sisters."

The email even referenced the ongoing issue in New York. "One of the goals of the Council is to give a voice to the many diverse peoples of the City, which is especially important given the recent anti-Islam events throughout the country."
How about the shrilling wail of an Islamic call to worship to open up city council meetings? Don't count on those whiney secular humanists to cry about "separation of church and state" the way they do during any recognition of Christian involvement in American heritage! I.E. the libs finally found a religion they like, or can at least tolerate.
