For 104 years, the bell at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church in hilly, blue-collar Manayunk has joyfully summoned the faithful to prayer, celebrated marriages, and marked the ends of wars.
Now, in a city whose many sacred symbols include a cracked bell, someone has filed a complaint to silence St. John's 5,000-pound bronze casting.
Not completely. Just in the morning. At 7. That's when it rings 18 times for the Angelus.
The official reason: It's too loud.

Too loud too early for Manayunk church bell, neighbor complains | Philadelphia Inquirer | 09/09/2010

I do not know what to think about this since Churches used to ring their bells all the time but reading the article the Church at one time rang it even during the night.

People say it is only extremists who believe in Radical Islam.
This is a piece from Al Skudsi bin Hookah, roving reporter and foreign correspondent for The Gaza Gajeera.

I am very unhappy. Our way of life is under attack. And we are not fighting back. Deep down, we know that when a woman has disgraced her family, nothing will restore honor except by killing her. This is understood in Jordan, Syria, Yemen, Lebanon, Egypt, the Gaza strip and the West Bank. So why are we Arabs telling the Western press that honor killing is cultural, that it is not really part of Islam? Our way of life is based on maintaining our honor. And make no mistake about it: a woman does tarnish her family's honor by engaging in pre-marital sex, or by getting herself raped, when she seeks divorce and when she marries against her family's wishes.
It's not just religious leaders who know it's the right thing to do. Many of the most progressive political leaders are the ones who defend the practice. To maintain the integrity of our society and our traditions, we must maintain our honor by any and every means. And keeping our women pure is a big part of our honor. So there's no point saying honor killing isn't really part of our religion. Our religion isn't just what's in the Koran. Honor killings fit into the cultural context of today's Islamic teachings. Honor and Islam are inextricably bound; they are what give our life meaning. A strong religion demands we choose to maintain our honor.
The rest, here: MAINTAINING FAMILY HONOR

If you are under the misconception that most Muslims are peaceful and are not following the Koran, this is a must read.

It has been my experience that most Republicans along with most other people do not want to deal with TRUTH. Many Republicans so badly want to give the appearance of getting along with other people they have resorted to Secular Ecumenism as a way to convince themselves they don't have to take responsibility for being deceived by leaders within the Republican party.

The longer Secular Ecumenism is accepted by people who claim to be conservative the more Liberal they have become. They are falling for the one world religion God is allowing Satan to orchestrate with Secular Ecumenism at its core.

God is against Secular Ecumenism. God wants us to live in truth. People who refuse to admit to themselves the reality of deception all around us are thoroughly mislead and lack faith in God to accept truth needed to prevail through these perilous times. We can't help others see truth if we ourselves are willingly deceived by the Satan's global conspiracy God is allowing play out right in front of us.

There has been so much information on the world news within the past two years about the conspiracy of global elite bringing about the new world order. Republicans who help along these conspiracies by still supporting Rhino and
Neoconservative Republicans do not have an acceptable excuse for why they are helping out Satan's worldwide conspiracy.

I believe those of us who continue in Secular Ecumenism will be judged harshly by God.

Then, I found I couldn't sleep. Funny the things that come to you. Anyhow, here some things to think about about:

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
1) The beginning of what? Time? Everything?
2) If everything, where was God? Just floating?
3) Did he do anything before that? Was he bored?
4) How is it that he always existed before time?
5) Isn't strange to think that God always was? He never began He has always been? And always shall be.
6) Why did he suddenly decide on making us?
7) Or was it sudden? Can something be sudden when there is no time?

Sister James Dolores, 73, gives her best surfer-girl pose in Stone Harbor, NJ, where her Pennsylvania convent owns a beachfront retreat called Villa Maria by the Sea.
“I’m really getting the hang of this,” said the spritely, no-nonsense nun. “No one ever thought they’d see me on a board.”
Though Sister James, of Sister Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, doesn’t actually hang 10, the nun has a special relationship with local surfers, and her mother house will host its 15th annual Nun’s Beach Surf Invitational on Sept. 11. The proceeds go to the maintenance of the breathtaking, 6½-acre, 150-bedroom

Vermonters Want Cross Removed… From Chapel!

Richard Downing and his wife Joan used to light up their 24-foot cross outside of their chapel during holy seasons. The town's development review board has already limited the number of days it can be lit up, and now officials want the cross taken down entirely.

"They felt that because of aesthetics it did not meet the character of the neighborhood, and so therefore, should not be there at all," said Municipal Manager Dan Hill of the Act 250 decision.

The Downings are appealing both rulings. They told Newschannel 5 that they are trying to appease neighbors by offering to plant trees around the cross, investing in dimmer lights and blocking out the light on certain sides of the cross. They want the cross to stay standing, and to be lit during Advent, Lent, and Mary's birthday.

"If it was a commercial thing and just any old sign, that would be fine," said Richard Downing, "But this is a cross. It's an integral part of any Catholic church. I've never seen a Catholic church that didn't have a cross on it."

Neighbors and town officials said the objection is not religious, and mostly concerns the lighting. But the Downings said the rulings have become an obstacle to their religious practices.

The Moral Landscape: Thinking About Human Values in Universal Terms - Yahoo! News

Harris argues that the wellbeing of conscious creatures must at some level form the basis of morality. If this claim is established—i.e., if it can be established that things which reduce the wellbeing of conscious creatures are "bad" and things which increase wellbeing "good"—and if we can in some way determine or measure human wellbeing scientifically, then moral objectivism is established.

Essentially, Harris is saying that a question like "how do you know human flourishing is good," is like asking "how do you know a bachelor is an unmarried male"; it just represents confusion on the part of the person asking the question. Similarly, according to Harris it makes no sense to ask a question like "but why is the worst possible misery for all sentient creatures bad?" Harris argues that "the worst possible misery for all sentient creatures" is simply bad by definition.

Harris' view is of course very controversial.

It has also been evident when they won't allow a mention of God or Christ in school, but the California public school curriculum includes Islam.

Okay, call me crazy, but we are nothing like the animals. Want proof?

Ever seen a moose drive a car?

I think that even though humans are technically mammals and a species in themselves, we should have our own kingdom because we are different from the animals.

We innovate. We create. We speak. We have complex, in-depth relationships. We have POLITICS (though whether that is a step up or a step down from the animals, I'm not exactly sure). We have cars, skyscrapers, planes, medicines, computers, music, consciences, schools, systems of government. I think we are grouped with the animals as part of a Darwinian conspiracy to convince us we are less than or equal to them.

I grew up learning that big companies were bad, global warming was real, God is not, the Bible is a lie, AIDS doesn't discriminate, cutting down trees is bad, cars are bad, I'm an animal and so are you, and whatever I learned in public school (see above) was absolutely true.

The liberals go after the children first. They teach them these lies and then label them with ADHD/ADD (simply pent-up energy from watching TV all day and being told they shouldn't have to work) and ODD (Opposition Defiant Disorder, which is simply a way of making parents who can't discipline their kids feel better). They are indoctrinated into the liberal mindset (if liberals had minds) and then labeled and boxed in so they can never succeed. On top of that, they are told they are animals with no purpose in the world.

And you wonder why liberal numbers keep growing, even though they like to kill their babies. They go after the children of those who decided to let their kids live!

That, and they're recruiting the apes and donkeys (after having sex with them).

Political comedien Bill Maher says religion is a "neurological disorder." MSNBC's Keith Olbermann called prolifers "Christian jihadists." CBS News Anchor Katie Couric claims Christian values are "repugnant"
Christian America is under attack. The enemy? The mainstream media.
According to author and political columnist S.E. Cupp, the goal of the mainstream media is to overthrow God and silence Christian America for good. Cupp warns that the mainstream media is using its influence to wage war against the nation's Judeo-Christian heritage.
In her book, Losing Our Religion, Cupp, who is a self-proclaimed atheist, takes a look beyond her own beliefs.
She contends it's not extremists in the news who are the most hostile threat to our nation's values. It's the news media itself. Through her book Cupp exposes the media's overt hostility toward traditional values.
Losing Our Religion is a preemptive strike, holding the media accountable for what she calls their "unapologetic bigotry."

I know that a lot of people think that the KJV is "the" Bible, but few of them make it their life's work to try convince everyone else. And I also believe that few of these would deny the validity of the Bible translated into a different language.

Well, I've met one that does both - more than just "met" him, he is my "little" brother. He claims the Lord has called him to convince people that the KJV is the only "correct" version of the Bible, that it is the one endorsed by God, and that, as far as I could tell when talking to him the other night, translations into other languages are also "corrupt imitations."

He claims all Bible commentators are phony, only out to flaunt their knowledge of the languages the Bible was originally written in; that they didn't bother learning what it "says" (wonder how they managed to communicate their knowledge if that is so).

He himself seems to know only a few verses - the ones that warn against adding & subtracting from the scriptures, and those claim that God will protect his word from being destroyed. The latter he claims refers specifically to the KJV - that God put his seal of approval on that version and that version only. He even uses the term "The Authorized Version" to back up his claims. He brushes off statements that it was "authorized by King James" and the translators who did the work.

He actually seems to know very little about the historical background of the Bible - he thinks that the epistle of James was written by James the son of Zebedee, and the brother of John - even though James was martyred before any part of the NT was written. He claims that he wrote about "works" because he didn't know about grace - since he died before anyone knew about it. That no one knew about it until Paul started preaching.

You can't confuse him with facts, because his mind is already made up. The first thing that alerted me to this being a cult is the fact that he throws out centuries of works by many commentators - all of them.

Anybody else ever seen anything like this? He called me in order to get my current address so he can send me a book. People who disagree with him are "quoting man's words." I just wonder whose words that book contains!
