But there was one common theme, sometimes from quasi reputable sites, that permeated the Internet: The Duggar children are captives in their own home.

Before traveling to Arkansas to record, I’d only spoken on the phone with Jim Bob Duggar, the father of all 19. ...

Jim Bob was kind enough to invite my entire family into his home. We ended up spending parts of three days there, and I can tell you first hand, this is no ordinary family.

You won’t find a television in their giant living room. The Internet is greatly restricted. ...
...
Funny thing is, people tend to assume a child not immersed in popular culture is a child missing from reality. In some cases, that is true. Not the Duggars.
...
While, admittedly, I admire the Duggars for much of what they do, I didn’t expect what I saw in these three girls. The world has yet to beat them into submission. They don’t watch the Disney Channel, so they’ve yet to learn that adults are buffoons and parents are embarrassing. They don’t listen to the local rock station, so they’ve yet do discover life is supposed to be one promiscuous event followed by another. They don’t attend public school, so they’ve yet to learn teenage girls are required to be filled with angst and riddled with insecurities.

It's amazing to me how much of the, "The Duggars creep me out," and , "The Duggars are socially irresponsible," reactions I've heard actually amount to little more than, "They're different from me," or refried silly Enviro talking points. Doesn't FREEDOM mean people's choices will be different from each other? The Duggars are different from me, but they are raising their children to be very responsible adults and not doing so on the taxpayers' dime. Richards gives a glimpse of the Duggars' off-camera reality, and I think more info would have made this article all the more interesting.

In one-fifth of a second, before the conscious mind has had a chance to react, the male brain has rendered judgment on whether the oncoming stranger is sexually hot.
If the ruling is favorable, physical manifestations are immediate.
Pupils dilate, heart rate spikes, testosterone surges and the eyes assume a vacant stare — sure signs that the “man trace” has set in.

Speaking as a man this is true. One thing a man learns is to try to disguise this particular trait if they are involved with a woman or are married.

The recognition of beauty does not always mean the tendency to want to cheat on the mate or girlfriend.

Sometimes I have to take a step back and let my family be who they are, and love 'em anyway. And I do.
However, here's one that I BET will leave you with a complete "blank".

In case you don't recall, my sister lost her husband. Another sister called and offered to send me a prayer card from the service. Not that I needed one, but I think, "well, that's a nice gesture."
So today I get the card. (Tucked inside a "Sympathy card", which I thought was a little weird, but okay. shrug.)
The prayer card simply has The Lord's Prayer on it - the direct quote from Mathew; 6: 9-13. (The version that says, "forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors", and includes, "For Thine is the Kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever....."), which I'm assuming you know some religions leave off, and prefer to use the version from Luke. Either is fine and dandy with me. We, however, grew up with neither version and recited, "...forgive us our trespasses and we forgive those who trespass against us." Still okay, in my book.

But what does my sister start with in her note to me? "In The Lord's Prayer, or the Our Father as I knew it, the words have been changed. I guess this is a different religion. Call me old fashioned. Some things shouldn't change."

Okay, a show of hands. How many of you are sitting there with blank looks on your faces?

I've been a single father of 2 for a long time now and Texas seems to think I need my A** handed to me every time I get a paycheck. Look Texas, my oldest is 17(first wife) and I have been paying child support since she was 4, never missing a beat, always did the right thing. My second is 8 (second wife)and have been paying for a year and a half now. Because they have 2 different moms Texas says I must pay 20% for 1 and 17% for the other. Then $200 for health, $80 for dental and $20 for vision( a month). So that means I pay about 60 percent of my paycheck to 2 ex-wives that in turn both make more than me as it is before the support. ARE YOU F-ING KIDDING ME Texas. I will continue to do the right thing but how about changing a few laws so a good father can survive.

A GENERATION ago they stood up for the highest principles of fairness, courage and decency.
But today’s tough-guy superheroes are sending out the wrong message to susceptible young boys, say researchers.
The “macho” role models in comic books and movies, such sa Christian Bale’s Batman in The Dark Knight, may be damaging the social skills of teenagers and even affecting their performance at school, it was claimed last night.

WalesOnline - Lifestyle - Showbiz - Macho superheroes are setting teens a bad example

Back centuries ago when I read comics the superheros stood for justice and fairness and then later the comics went to humanizing them and then they had failings and needs. Since then from the few times I have read comics I have noticed how these superheros have further degenerated into wimpy caricatures of their previous selfs.

In the rush to be PC those who have fostered these visions of what they believe a superhero should be are doing a disservice to their children.

Now on the big screen we see superheros who are coming under fire for their sense of duty and honor.

Birth order within families has long sparked sibling rivalry, but it might also impact the child's personality and intelligence, a new study suggests. First-borns are typically smarter, while younger siblings get better grades and are more outgoing, the researchers say.
The findings weigh in on a long-standing debate: What effect if any does birth order have on a person's life? While numerous studies have been conducted, researchers have yet to draw any definitive conclusions.
The results lend support to some previous hypotheses — for instance, that the eldest sibling tends to have higher aptitude. But the study also contradicts other proposed ideas, for example, that first-borns tend to be more extroverted.

Birth Order Affects Child's Intelligence and Personality | | LiveScience

Now having children myself at first glance I would say that this may be true but as I well know others can have a different experience with their children
