Times of London: Iran Paying Bounty to Kill U.S. Soldiers

The Sunday Times (UK) reported yesterday, based on Taliban sources, that the Iranians are paying bounties to the Taliban to kill American soldiers. (The Times's account is behind a pay wall, but summaries of the story can be found elsewhere in the press.) We learn that the going rate is $1,000 per dead American and $6,000 for each American vehicle that is destroyed.

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard of Iran paying out rewards for dead Americans. When WikiLeaks released tens of thousands of U.S. military documents earlier this year, a number of intelligence reports pointing to collusion between Iran and the Taliban (as well as al Qaeda) came to light.

One of the WikiLeaks documents was an ISAF report dated February 19, 2005. The report noted that a group of Taliban commanders consisting of “eight main leaders, all of whom travel into [Afghanistan] to recruit soldiers” was expected to orchestrate attacks against U.S. forces in the Helmand and Uruzgan provinces. “This Joint Group currently resides in Iran,” the document notes, and the “Iranian government has offered each member of the group 100,000 Rupees ($1,740) for any [Afghan] soldier killed and 200,000 Rupees ($3,481) for any [Government of Afghanistan] official.”
Former Obama administration car czar Steven Rattner is coming out with a new book that depicts him swashbuckling through the financial crisis and also shows Obama as "out to get" the car companies and the administration making political decisions about how to deal with bankrupt automakers GM and Chrysler.
...
The Huffington Post got a leaked copy ... .

Key points from the article and excerpts:

-When Obama was told of the plan to pay GM CEO Rick Wagoner a $7.1 million severance package after Obama ordered that he be sacked, Rattner writes: "Suddenly I felt that I was indeed in the presence of a community organizer..."

-Rattner describes presidential political adviser David Axelrod coming to car meetings armed with poll data to support the takeover and Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel identify Congressmen in whose districts large Chrysler facilities were located
...
-"If his team had linked arms with the outgoing administration, as President Bush's advisers had proposed, billions of dollars could well have been saved.

Ya know, if one is going to take advantage of crises, one should at least have the relevant knowledge and not let one's knowledge be overridden by ideology. Which is a long way of saying that the whole process was saturated with and stinks of incompetent politics.

PARIS (AFP) - – Estimates of the rate of ice loss from Greenland and West Antarctica, one of the most worrying questions in the global warming debate, should be halved, according to Dutch and US scientists.

In the last two years, several teams have estimated Greenland is shedding roughly 230 gigatonnes of ice, or 230 billion tonnes, per year and West Antarctica around 132 gigatonnes annually.
...
Often ignored or considered a minor factor in previous research, post-glacial rebound turns out to be important, says the paper.
...
... southern Greenland is in fact subsiding, as the crust beneath it is pulled by the post-glacial rebound from northern America.

With glacial isostatic adjustment modelled in, the loss from Greenland is put at 104 gigatonnes, plus or minus 23 gigatonnes, and 64 gigatonnes from West Antarctica, plus or minus 32 gigatonnes.

A 50% reduction? With a +/-20% and a +/-50% tolerance for the two loss numbers! These geologists and climatologists do not know enough to be making such statements! What other "minor factors" will prove highly significant? What unknowns might be similarly skewing their guesstimates? The words "science" and "precision" should not be associated with what they are doing! These people are trying to measure the combined girths of a herd of moving elephants with a dial caliper ... and that's putting it nicely!

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/09/07/op...brooks.html?hp
In the coming years of slow growth, people are bound to establish new norms and seek noneconomic ways to find meaning. One of the interesting figures in this recalibration effort is David Platt.

Platt earned two master’s degrees and a doctorate from the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. At age 26, he was hired to lead a 4,300-person suburban church in Birmingham, Ala., and became known as the youngest megachurch leader in America.

Platt grew uneasy with the role he had fallen into and wrote about it in a recent book called “Radical: Taking Back Your Faith From the American Dream.” It encapsulates many of the themes that have been floating around 20-something evangelical circles the past several years.

Platt’s first target is the megachurch itself. Americans have built themselves multimillion-dollar worship palaces, he argues. These have become like corporations, competing for market share by offering social centers, child-care programs, first-class entertainment and comfortable, consumer Christianity.

Jesus, Platt notes, made it hard on his followers. He created a minichurch, not a mega one. Today, however, building budgets dwarf charitable budgets, and Jesus is portrayed as a genial suburban dude. “When we gather in our church building to sing and lift up our hands in worship, we may not actually be worshipping the Jesus of the Bible. Instead, we may be worshipping ourselves.”. . .

The tension between good and plenty, God and mammon, became the central tension in American life, propelling ferocious energies and explaining why the U.S. is at once so religious and so materialist. Americans are moral materialists, spiritualists working on matter.

VIENNA – The U.N. atomic agency says its monitoring of Iran's nuclear activities is being hampered because Tehran objects to giving some agency inspectors access to its program.
The unusual warning is contained in a restricted report on Iran made available to The Associated Press.
It follows Iran's recent decision to strip two experienced inspectors of the right to monitor Tehran's nuclear activities after they reported undeclared nuclear experiments conducted by Tehran. Iran says the reporting by the two was inaccurate but the IAEA stands by their findings.
The report is being circulated to the IAEA's 35-nation board and to the U.N. Security Council. Iran says it wants to enrich to create energy. But enrichment can also create the fissile core of nuclear warheads.

UN nuke agency says monitoring of Iran is hampered - Yahoo! News

What is interesting is that inspectors are being denied access and one has to wonder if Iran is pursuing nuclear weapon capability in spite of those who claim otherwise.

The UN is not noted for actually doing what they claim to be doing and have in the past turned a blind eye to situations from countries while making a big deal out of other situations.

Ah yes, more proof that there are no Salafi jihadists and the entire war on terror is simply a power grab by evil crusaders out to kill and control Muslims.

Also, I'm pretty sure that any sectarian violence in Pakistan was caused by our invasion and illegal occupation, right?
A suicide bombing Friday targeting a Shiite procession in the southern city of Quetta killed 58 people and injured more than 100 others, police said. The explosion came two days after bomb attacks killed 35 people during a Shiite march in another Pakistani city.
Oh, and those 97 other not-Muslim-enoughs killed in Pakistan this week? False flag operation.
The Jawa Report: One Group of Muslims Murders Dozens of Other Muslims Because They Weren't the Right Kind of Muslim

Now for those who think that aggression against Americans is the only front these people are fighting then one has to remember that although we see mainly the news going on in Afghanistan there is an effort in many countries to overthrow the governments and even to cleanse the planet of Muslims who do not think the "right way".

... the Justice Department's investigation of Arpaio could end badly for Holder. When the Department first informed Arpaio that a probe was under way, back in March 2009, it sent a letter saying the investigation would focus on "alleged patterns or practices of discriminatory police practices and unconstitutional searches and seizures." ... just six months before that, in September 2008, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, known as ICE, did its own investigation of Arpaio's office -- and gave it a clean bill of health. Arpaio's lawyers recently got a copy of the ICE report through the Freedom of Information Act.
...
A tidbit of information contained in other government documents released under the Freedom of Information Act also suggests politics may be involved. Arpaio's lawyers found a March 11, 2009, e-mail, sent just after the Justice Department investigation was announced, from an ICE employee to John P. Torres, then the acting assistant secretary of ICE. "Did you see this?" the e-mail said, attaching a news report on the investigation. "Yes," Torres responded a few minutes later. "Interesting politics at play."

Ground Zero Mosque Investor Was Terror Contributor

Fox 5 News reported Thursday that one of the financial backers of the Islamic mosque and cultural center project in Lower Manhattan once contributed to a terror group, although the investor says the contribution was made because he thought he was giving money to a harmless charity.

One of the key players in Sharif El-Gamal's Mosque near Ground Zero is Egyptian born businessman, Hisham Elzanaty. Fox 5 News has learned exclusively and confirmed with Mr. Elzanaty’s attorney that Elzanaty made a “significant investment” in the development of the mosque near Ground Zero.

Fox 5 has also uncovered Elzanaty has teamed up with El-Gamal on at least two real estate deals: the controversial mosque site and another deal involving a commercial property in the Chelsea section of Manhattan. Read more...

There are a lot of idiots, including the Chancellor Hussein/Eric Holder regime who simply don't care about Imam Rouf's connections to Hamas, so they probably won't care about an investor being linked to Hamas. This is just more evidence a shrine to terrorism linked to terrorists should not be built anywhere in this country, especially near Ground Zero, but don't expect our terror loving limp wristed justice department to do anything about it.

I didn't see another post about this, but the Dept of Ed is proposing a scary rule that if put in effect, would hurt all privately owned institutions of higher education. Obama appointed the guy who it all rolls down to.

We should write letters to this fool and let him know how it will hurt education by taking away variety and opportunities in higher education, and it will hurt companies and thus employment.

Anyone else have a take on this?
