Man fired for not wearing "666" sticker

A Georgia factory worker claims in a federal lawsuit that he was fired after he refused to wear a 666 sticker he feared would doom him to eternal damnation.Billy E. Hyatt claims he was fired from Pliant Corp., a plastics factory in northern Georgia near Dalton, after he refused to wear a sticker proclaiming that his factory had been accident-free for 666 days. That number is considered the "mark of the beast" in the Bible's Book of Revelation describing the apocalypse.

Lawsuit: Man fired for not wearing "666" sticker - CBS News

Reading the comments was very interesting because from the few I read, this man was being ridiculed for his belief in Jesus. I know that Christianity is under attack from those who want to live a live of debauchery without any goal posts.

The secularists want a society devote of moral turpitude.

The comments highlighted why this society is on a downward path to losing its identity from those who prefer moral laxity.

In the end was this gentleman right for thinking wearing those numbers would harm him? Was the company in the wrong for firing him?

This week the nation is going to celebrate Thanksgiving which is steeped in tradition and viewed by many as an affirmation of their beliefs which helped this nation overcome hardships and bring about prosperity because of unity and goals.

It's like this, Unless they lived under a rock for decades, the management knew the stigma associated with the # 666. They could have easily picked any number of days less than 666 or allowed the guy to opt out. Someone in management was playing games with it and got off on playing anti-God with it. The employee's religious belief should be respected.

I'm not being mean. You're just acting like a sissy.

Islam is a religion of murder and violence as practiced by Islamofascists. The rest of the Muslims are just too afraid of the Islamofascists to say much about it. The MSM ignores the ones that do.

I believe in one of the comments it was pointed out that a sign could have been posted which would have accomplished the same goal. I have been in many factories and they use that method.

I'm actually inclined to go with a property rights perspective on this. They have the right to pick and choose their employees. I think it was silly of them to insist, but I think they had the right to do so. Also, just because the number 666 is associated with things evil in the Bible, it doesn't make the number itself evil (I believe any number of fundamentalist Christian theologians would say as much). I would, however, sit up and take notice if there was a pattern of needling Christians by the management, and would look for work elsewhere.

Don't much care about symbolism caca like this personally. He's obviously one of the people who over react to songs about the devil, or nightmares and so forth and calls it Satanism I'm guessing.

Folks, the Iron Maiden song "The Number of the Beast" was written about a nightmare Steve Harris had.
I've personally had nightmares about being chased by the devil.. What was funny was the only way to get away from him was by hiding in a dumpster. I still remember waking up sweating.. and the clawing sounds... I was in Kindergarten, and had pretty much the same dream several times.

Anyhow, I'd say that firing him for not wearing a sticker is going overboard on the company's part. But, we don't know how he responded when it was requested that he wear it. Perhaps he caused a scene? Perhaps he has a history of not being a team player? In the end, I'm going to side with the company here.

I suppose the world is going to end since I'm in agreement with the above posters too. I was expecting a lot of over-zealotry.

They were right to fire him just as he would've been right to quit. Just like the lady that refused business with the lesbian couple - they are nothing more than voluntary actions.
What's the difference between today's conservatives and liberals? Functionally, nothing. They both love war, big corporations/unions, giving away foreign aid, and they enjoy being the world's police. They are both enemies of the Individual, and they'll go so far as to fabricate enemies to stop at nothing to prevent anyone from owning their own self.

I'm not siding with anybody until I know all the facts. But it is really stupid to require someone to wear a sticker that has nothing to do with their job. I'm guessing it was probably deliberate needling.

This strikes me as the type of firing that a company does when they are looking for ANY excuse to fire somebody they don't want.
The more we learn about what we are, the more options we will discern about what to try to become. Americans have long honored the “self-made man,” but now that we are actually learning enough to be able to remake ourselves into something new, many flinch. Many would apparently rather bumble around with their eyes closed, trusting in tradition, than look around to see what’s about to happen. Yes, it is unnerving; yes, it can be scary. After all, there are entirely new mistakes we are now empowered to make for the first time. But it’s the beginning of a great new adventure for our knowing species. And it’s much more exciting, as well as safer, if we open our eyes. -Daniel C. Dennett

They should fire the manager who decided employees needed to wear a sticker EVERYDAY, regardless of the number on it.
