What about it? First of all that's 1990 when we were still one country. The Soviet breakup was finalized in late december 1991. I thought you were trying to prove the Russian Federation had troops in Georgia proper before the August war, besides the ones I have already mentioned which were there legally. I don't see how this quote is relevant.

So you are saying North Ossetia was never part of Georgia ???

And Russian troops in South Ossatia were helping separatists
    against Georgia. Legal ??

That's right, North Ossetia was not part of Georgia. Even during Soviet times, North Ossetia was part of the Russian SFSR, while South Ossetia was part of the Georgian SSR.

As for us helping separatists, are you talking about when the conflict started at the Soviet breakup, or do you mean in August?

Sorry, I can't view .rtf files on the thing I'm currently using.

Wiki isn't making that up. What you're quoting doesn't mean that North Ossetia was part of Georgia proper; it's saying people either fled to North Ossetia (a part of Russia) OR they fled in the either direction into Georgia proper.

You can read up a bit on North Ossetia if you're still not sure, but I assure you that never in its modern history was it part of Georgia or the Georgian SSR. Going to bed now.

I don't know if we could be true friends with Russia. I mean look at Volk, the perfect example of why it's so fun to be their enemy.

The Cold War was against communism, of course Obama wants to move past it.

It is perfectly within reason to accept the fact that a smaller country would attack a larger one, with a history of military strength, with conventional forces.

    Not.
