More Sanctions
FOXNews.com - U.S. to Push for 'Significant Regime of Sanctions' Against Iran, Obama Says
Because they have worked so well in the past. This reminds of a "Blackadder" episode I say.
(Setting World War I)
General: We have a battle plan that will ensure victory in the field.
Captain: Is the plan us leaving the trenches and walking very slowly towards the enemy?
General: How did you know that Blackadder it is top secret information.
Captain: Because it's the same strategy we used last time and the 17 times before that.
General: Exactly the brilliance of this plan. Having done the same strategy 17 befores, doing it again will be the last thing the enemy expects us to do.“If you're a liberal, anything you say is protected. If you're a conservative, anything you say is hateful.”- Laura Schlessinger

What would you like to see instead of sanctions?

Less words and more actions. Obama keeps WARNING of sanctions but never does anything. And, since Volk you're our resident Russian, a little more support from Russia on this as you guys are the ones who are helping the Iranians develop their nukes. Instead of Sanctions how about a complete economic Blockade of Iran? How about a freeze on all overseas accounts from Iran? How about a public statement of support for the opposition group being murdered in the streets of Iran? How about a freeze on travel to and from Iran? If these don't work, then YES, a military strike of all their nuclear facilities.

I have to agree. And in fact I'd view this as a minimum appropriate response.
Diplomacy had been tried .. again and again. Europe tried it years ago and got nowhere. Obama tried his version of it, supposedly trying to be 'enlightened' in comparison to Bush's realism .. and what happened was that Iran was shown to be hiding the extent of its efforts to build its capabilities, in the shape of a processing facility they tried to keep secret.
Talk gets nowhere with Iran. Diplomacy is obviously laughed at. All it really does is buy more time for Iran to achieve all it's setting out to achieve.
And this is intolerable, in terms of the holocaustal threat Iran made against Israel, which they've never backtracked upon.
So everything, including sanctions, has been tried - everything short of military action. It is the ONE optiion that remains that has any chance of stopping Iran.
The sooner it's undertaken, THE BETTER. This cannot continue.

Hasn't it all been tried, Volk ?
And where do we stand today ?
We see Ahma Dinnerjacket proudly declaring Iran to be a nuclear State .. AND .. warning the West to stop trying to impede it !!
If you can see 'progress' in this, something showing that the Iranians are willing to compromise even slightly .. present your evidence. In the absence of that evidence, the case for something far tougher is made.

Brits can be rounded up by the trainload to tell you that it most certainly 'is'.
Happily, I more often travel by bus these days ..
Where my own people are concerned .. I think we've lived for too long in a sort of cosy 'never-never' land .. with the far mightier US there to shoulder the burden of taking what military actions, what tough decisions and actions in the world, are really necessary. This then gives us the latitude - for the most part - to turn into armchair philosophers and carp away at our leisure.
Yes, we have supported the US with British troops .. at a pitiful level compared with US casualties and troop strengths. Far too many of us over here escape realities, happy to let others shoulder the real responsibility for them. And in escaping them, our perspective(s) become skewed.
Iran is just beavering away, doing what it set out to do at the beginning. Namely, strengthening its nuclear capabilities however it can in readiness for a nuclear attack. Regardless of its posturing, despite all its protestations of 'peaceful intent' from its nuclear program, ALWAYS there's the slow, inexorable ratcheting-up of goals which become increasingly in line with nuclear weapons manufacture.
They hide a facility. They claim to want other countries to refine their uranium for them, 'proving' a willingness to use processed material failing to reach weapons-grade levels .. then just DAYS later, reveal a capacity to enrich to increased levels, above any they say they wanted !!
The next time you watch Ahmadinejad on TV, see how easily he smiles and grins. What he's really doing is laughing at us all ... while all the time bringing Israel ever-closer to the prospect of all-out attack.

A friend of mine (used to run a small independent church near me) had a speaker one New Year's Eve, who visited Israel at a time when there were frequent across-the-border missiles being lobbed. He was with a group of Jewish men, seeing this missiles lobbed, and they started singing, "The God of Abraham praise" and watched missiles turn in mid-air and return to the place they originated. Ahmadi nejad had best be careful, lest God redirect his nuke attacks.

Wow ! That's quite a story.
What's sad is that, the way things are going, it may indeed take an intervention from God to really get anything done. Certainly, Obama has been far too intent on being 'enlightened' to do anything else but give Ahmadinejad some amusement.
It's galling.
We had a strident speaker on a BBC discussion programme warning that Iran might be attacked .. 'be next', within the context of what she regarded as the war crime of attacking Iraq in 2003.
A few days ago, I watched Hans Blix make it clear in a BBC interview that, in his view, a nuclear-armed Iran was preferable to an attacked Iran (a 'dangerous' prospect, he said, but one that would have to be lived with).
The Left will build up their efforts to make action against Iran seen as an intolerable option .. if they can. Whether that is true for American opinion or not, I'm sure that on the international stage, they'll do all possible to create just that political climate.
