Well yeah, they just get lulled into complacency by promises that sound too good to be true. And if medicine gets socialized, price controls will exist on all medical services and medical care will be paid for by taxpayers. So you get a destruction of a lot of medical companies, plus taxes will have to be raised to pay for the new government obligations. Which is unfair because young people like myself have relatively less medical needs than older people. So again, you're taking wealth from the new generation and giving it to the old, and it's not fair.

And all the people with genetic/congenital diseases that require a lot of care. No more heart surgery for infants, just let them die - or kill them. And of course, the mentally ill & retarded.

People will think you're being facetious, but I guarantee you that if the government is in control of healthcare, we will have a Spartan way of running healthcare. And it's no joke.

This would be the one time I would ever consider moving to France. Their training is inferior, but their system is becoming superior.

If people are sick and can't afford their healthcare, they die. That's life.

Hard to say because we are so locked into the notion of paying for taxes with the left drumming the mantra of healthcare being a right into everyone's head. But I would like to believe this is where charity steps in and voluntary giving of time and resources makes up for the difference.

Its just a loose theory but as with business, according to conservative thought, is the engine for prosperity and progress as opposed to government, could you say the same about charity?

What I mean is that if you practice redistributive policy and take from the achievers to 'spread the wealth' you kill incentive, innovation and ingenuity. But if you lower taxes and invest in the private sector, people working in their best interest will create more wealth and opportunity for the entire economy.

Can the same thing be said for charity? If more money stays in the hands of the people who earned it, will they be more inclined to be generous? Or do they view every dollar confiscated by the federal government, in part to pay for entitlement programs, thier charitable contribution to society?

    Just a thought.

It only makes the label, 'Hitlery's Village', even more acurate.

I don't think so, I think people are just paying their taxes, which may or may not go to funding entitlement programs, because they're afraid of what happens if they don't.

I think that if the proper incentives were in place, private sources of charity would continue to exist.
