I'm horrified. I am going to have to figure out now what kind of gun to buy, find time to take lessons, better secure my home... Or move somewhere else... The moon, maybe?

I exercised my 2nd amendment right and purchased a handgun......right after my house was robbed and all my guns were stolen back in September.

Ouch. Did the police/anyone ever find out who stole your guns?

I know once I get back to working for money, I'll be getting a couple guns myself. Not just for me, but for my mom also (which that'll require talking to my mom and all, she's not a gun person at all, and primarily because my 2nd oldest brother once threatened to shoot her years ago).

When I asked the cop how likely it was that I would get my items back, he literally laughed at me. Two weeks later there was a shootout where a suspect was killed by police not far from where we live but they never found anything of ours in followups from that. We live in a fairly nice part of town too but the very large lots and trees make it an attractive target....easy to get up to the house and not be seen.

The worst part was the sentimental value of many of the items. They got ALL my wife's jewelry.....we've been married 10 years so that's alot...not much value, but definitely sentimental. Also got a hunting rifle that was my grandpa's. Had a brass plate with his initials on the fore stock.

They got our fairly new 52" LCD, by far the most 'expensive' item and the one I least cared about. Obviously, above all I felt violated and worried. I can handle myself but my wife and daughters (4 and 7) are a different story.

We now have a security system and insurance paid for most of the stolen stuff but......its just not the same.

Damn! I'm surprised you haven't taken a war against any local gangs (or unorganized groups of people capable of that). I don't even think I could peacefully handle someone stealing any of my wife's jewelry (and I've not even been married).

It's definitely not the same, as you said, sentimental value.

I live in Phoenix... Arizona is a mess. Thank goodness for Sheriff Joe, he throws these monkeys in their own prison in the heat wearing pink.

Glenn Beck has in the past talked about the 'death of shame' in America. As a nation we've become desensitized and hyper tolerant of abhorent behavior. Instead of punishing crime, we try to understand and sympathize with the perpatrators and the vicitms.

The cop laughed at me because he's knows its hopeless to try and track those bastards down. No one cares enough. Believe me...there are ALOT of pawn shops in San Antonio...I'd never find my stuff and with insurance, I'm better off letting it go than spending entire weekends searching every pawn shop in town.

I've read some about Sheriff Joe....and to some people, he's a hero, one of few doing his job and doing it well but to others he's a villian and takes alot of heat.

I remember hearing Ravi Zacharias speak about that.
