Judd Gregg backs out

On principle....brilliant, although his statement is a little wishy-washy, it doesn't change the fact he's calling the stimulus a pile of dung and isn't on board the Obama socialism express.

Senator Gregg Statement on His Withdrawal for Consideration of U.S. Commerce Secretary

Sen. Gregg stated, “I want to thank the President for nominating me to serve in his Cabinet as Secretary of Commerce. This was a great honor, and I had felt that I could bring some views and ideas that would assist him in governing during this difficult time. I especially admire his willingness to reach across the aisle.

“However, it has become apparent during this process that this will not work for me as I have found that on issues such as the stimulus package and the Census there are irresolvable conflicts for me. Prior to accepting this post, we had discussed these and other potential differences, but unfortunately we did not adequately focus on these concerns. We are functioning from a different set of views on many critical items of policy.

“Obviously the President requires a team that is fully supportive of all his initiatives.

“I greatly admire President Obama and know our country will benefit from his leadership, but at this time I must withdraw my name from consideration for this position.

“As we move forward, I expect there will be many issues and initiatives where I can and will work to assure the success of the President’s proposals. This will certainly be a goal of mine.

“Kathy and I also want to specifically thank Governor Lynch and Bonnie Newman for their friendship and assistance during this period. In addition we wish to thank all the people, especially in New Hampshire, who have been so kind and generous in their supportive comments.

“As a further matter of clarification, nothing about the vetting process played any role in this decision. I will continue to represent the people of New Hampshire in the United States Senate.”

Just the fact that he considered it makes him suspect. I would not buy the "change from within" argument. Out with the old, in with the new for the Rep's.

True and his resignation is pretty weakly worded....as if he wanted so bad to believe but he reluctantly must adhere to his damned principles.

On the other hand, playing along then ejecting at the last minute makes Obama look like a fool at this point. No matter how sugarcoated it is, it still boils down to "The stimulus is bad, I don't agree with you, so I changed my mind."

This took a little bit of nads on his part, since he has a serious fight on his hands for reelection in '10. Some are predicting he will not be reelected.

Judd probably bought barry's B-S when he accepted, then found out he (Barry) has NO INTENTION of being "bi-partisan".

I think I heard Sen Spector jumping up and down saying; "pick me Barry, pick me, I'm a brown noser".

Everybody makes their own choice regarding someone else, but this kind of comment defines for me this guy who has been a follower, not a leader and who is given to being politically correct:

Quote:
I greatly admire President Obama and know our country will benefit from his leadership
No-bah-dee with their sanity intact and steeped to traditional American values with a strict respect for the literal interpretation of the Constitution, our most significant founding document, could conceive the thought process that spews out this bile.

Excuse me friend, but I vehemently disagree. Gregg is part of the problem, not part of the solution. He, by virtue of this singular statement has defined himself for me as a bend over backwards capitulator and apologist who can be counted to get weak in the knees when the going really gets rough!

This is the time of revolution and those who cannot be counted to stand straight and erect on principle need to be ground underfoot. We're fighting for the very continued viability of this republic..., nothing less.

Glenn Beck is another whiner in that mode who makes me want to puke.

What was Judd Gregg thinking when he decided to join the Obama administration? I guess the koolaid wore off , and now Gregg is thinking clearly now. Along with finding a cure for cancer , we need to find a cure for Obama Mania Syndrome. The Obama koolaid is stronger than cocaine.

It really boils down to the more mainstream and conservative elements put so much pressure on my *ss, to not trust the demonRATs and chance giving my seat way to them that I had to relent, because I really don't have principles and I'm a populist poseur.

Check this out for clues to what this was all about, imnsho:
Lynch to Appoint Republican if Gregg Nominated?<br>Bumped: Gregg Accepts
