James Richardson tosses out the gauntlet at his new blog,
The Skepticians, in discussing a recent ruling in Florida that overturned a ban on gay couples adopting children. Richardson worked at the RNC this past year, and believes that the gay-rights issue will eventually marginalize the Republican Party. He sharply criticizes the proponents of the ban in Florida:
Hot Air Blog Archive Should the GOP oppose gay adoption?
I say, yes, the GOP should oppose gay adoption. It should oppose gay marriage as well. The umbrella getting too big and taking in all sorts of values waters down the base. Too many liberals, moderates and RINOs have become prominent in the party.
It was bad enough to have pro-abortion Republicans speak at conventions, although they didn't address abortion. It still sends a message the party tolerates and accepts social liberalism of party members. Colin Powell wanted to address abortion rights when he spoke at the 96 convention, but didn't, and we see how we were repaid.
Even though I don't like RINOs to be in the spolight, especially at our conventions, I understand not everyone will agree on everything and there needs to be individualism. Therefore, I can accept a moderate speaking at a convention, but the party needs to remain solidified by a conservative base. The party as a whole, overall, needs to have a conservative platform and take a stand.
We should not endorse the views of liberals, or endorse liberalism, no matter what party they are in, especially our own.
The G.O.P. needs to get back to cutting taxes, national defense, support for the military, support for clandestine operations, pro-family, pro-life, and the support of marriage consisting of being between one man and one woman and focus on support and tax incentives for in tact families.
Watering the base down does nothing but empower liberalism.
