Oh, boy, do I know where you're coming from! I live in Western PA, and although we do a
little better by the hunters, the hunting license fees are getting so high that it's getting to be a rich man's sport. And we've had people write letters to the paper with the stupid statement that "there can't be very many deer left, because so many are getting hit on the road." I've hit 3 deer, and my son hit one with my vehicle, and I had one hit me. That last one, I was driving along the road at night and saw a deer standing beside the road. It was too late to take any kind of evasive action, so I just hoped and prayed that it would run out in front of me. It didn't - it waited until my headlights were past and ran into the passenger door. No serious damage, but it knocked off my side mirror.
When we upped the limit on does, some idiot wrote to the paper saying that the last time we did that, we practically wiped out the deer population. It's true that at one time the deer population was relatively low - but I have no idea what the cause was - so we imported deer from Michigan.
Edit: Oh, yes, and my son (FC) nearly hit a deer while riding his bicycle, I think on more than one occasion, and he had one nudge the back of his motor scooter once (or maybe it was his motorcycle).
