It is my understanding that prison officials once segregated the inmates convicted of pediophilia and such trash. Now they buy their records.
Speaking of music, here is an HONEST observation...
At least around people I grew up with, Michael Jackson has set black music back fifty years. When I was a kid growing up in a southern beach town, black music was The Ink Spots, then Chubby Checker and Fats Domino, then Jimi Hendrix and Sly Stone. I kid you not: often I have heard a white kid belittle a black kid and then a white kid would jump in to say,"Remember:Jimi Hendrix is black!" That stopped the friction right there, every time. I used to listen to a local "soul" station in my '67 Mustang, because so much of the Top40 was just trash. And then came MJ. Too bad, so sad. Suddenly, all my friends hated 1) Disco Music and 2) Michael Jackson.
Yep. Name a wide-appeal black performer today that isn't commercial ,rap, or rotten. I can't think of one. The last great was Marvin Gaye.
And ,oh yeah...The white face...Hmmm. I suppose a psychiatrist could REALLY have had a field day discussing the face (or should I say MASK?).I can't remember the other JACKSON BROTHER'S names (Except Tito, and I think there was some clown named JESSE and another named REGGIE,) But how do you think THEY felt about all the mental gymnastics?
Have you noticed how press releases are being signed "The Jackson Family". C'mon, lets see some names!
And does his financial DEBT get covered by insurance? How about his debt to society?

I can and I did. And I'll do it again, MJ is by far the most overhyped solo artist EVER. His music is just as TORTUROUS as Barry Manilow, and this coming from someone that grew up around the MJ hype of the 80's and 90's and that had to attend one of his concerts.

MJ was a complete performer. he danced as good as he sang and he sang better than anyone.
Any pop rock artist does better than him, hell even the typical emo band is far better than his crap.

Ok he was strange. But he doesn't deserve all the hate.
Nothing of the pedophil stuff was ever proven to my knowledge or he would have been in jail right?
Wrong. He was acquitted on technical reasons, both times.

Overall truth. Though I disagree who was the last decent black artist was, the point is down right truth.

Does anyone know a good cure for wretching?
I worry about the state of mind (or lack thereof) of our country. Idolizing a perverted child molester, with a ghostly, ghastly face and ghastly morals to boot.
Sure, MJ was cute and interesting as a child, but so was Barack Obama.
Hmmmm? You don't think they are related, do you?
I can see BO "moonwalking" and singing "Beat it! Beat it! Get out of town and beat it! Crimes a'risin, dollars divin', can't save my house, with Obama's jivin'.Just beat it!"

Sorry. Maybe somebody important will die soon and we can eulogize them.(Like, please God, Paris Hilton)
Personally I am so tired about hearing about Micheal Jackson. I turn on the news and it is all about Jackson and then a little blurb about Farah and maybe some actual news

I think Prince (or the artist formerly known as) is a better all around performer than Jackson. Yeah, he's weird and a recluse but the guy can write, sing, dance and play any musical instrument. He's written more songs for other performers than the Jackson 5 ever wrote for themselves.

For our well-read public out there, I quote one of MY FAVORITE characters from fiction, which could be applied to Prince and MJ:
Insect Receptionist: "Oh,Sir! You're so WEIRD, you should be in movies!!"
Zaphod Beeblebrox: " And you, baby, should be in REAL LIFE!"

Senator Foghorn wen I started reading that quote ad I thought that is from Doug Adams!

You are 100% correct...however you left off BB King and Otis Redding and Sam Cooke and Jackie Wilson...Curtis Mayfield, Stevie Wonder, Quincy Jones, but my favorite and the one whose music along with B.B. King stands the test of time is Marvin Gaye.

Mark F...it is not hate but just a complete lack of respect...I did like some of his music but he is noway in the league of the others..I don't care how many albums teeny boppers bought. Without th collaboration from Quincy Jones he would have had none of that fame ...Quincy Jones was the musical genius that suported all that talent.

Take a look at what happened without the genius of Quincy Jones...Jackson was a flop without him.

A left liberal and or radical is someone who often
"lives in a fantasy life completely supported by the system they despise" .... Mark Steyn.

MJ's Thriller was the no. 1 album of all time.
So lots of people liked him.
When I was just a little kid in the early 70s my mom, who is now 73 was raving to me about MJ singing Ben. You can't take away from him his incredible talent and ability to touch people of all ages, races, religions etc because of the music and the dancing.

Marvin Gaye, lol give me a break.

Now as for the only black entertainers to make it being commercial, rap etc. brings up the interesting phenomenon. While MJ, was nominally black (looked white sometimes, lol) and some say the best pop artist ever, the best rapper ever IMHO is eminem, and he is white.

Music is a special thing not too many folks are looking at race when listening to a well sung song.

As for Jackson's acquital, perhaps by technicality you mean reasonable doubt..

IMHO again MJ will be remembered quite rightly as one of pop's best, Now the important thing here is opinion. I recognize that you are entitled to your opinion in everything and for something so subjective as music it is pointless to argue really. I love country music, my daughter hates it and she loves R&B which I can't abide but really neither of us is right or wrong. That is just the way it is with music. With that in mind perhaps I should take back my snicker at Marvin Gaye. OK I guess some people would like that kind of singing.. But not me. I guess we are not all the same..

His music was pretty good. I enjoyed most of it. I feel for his family and friends, but we need to move on.
