    Not over kill the power supply I had was a 230 `and I replaced it with a 650 because I want to use a better graphic card and it said I needed at least a 450 to run it.

    I am looking to upgrade the processor and ram as well.

    I am looking at a light scribe dvd drive that is sata driven which requires larger ram

    Make positive the power supply rails have correct amps. most graphic cards require to have 18 amps from the supply

    It could mean the power supply is about to die, but it may be that the fan simply needs lubrication. I have an older Dell machine. After about 2 years the fan suddenly become very noisy. I pulled the fan, remove the vinyl label over the center of it and put 2 drops of machine oil on the center pin. It is now at least 2 years later and I've never had another fan or power supply problem.
