The Cost of the War

Does anybody have a link to a good article that discusses how the cost of the Iraq war has been overstated by the media and how defense spending is actually less of a percentage of the GDP than it was during the Cold War?

I always have liberals blast me with this point, and would like some scholarly data to back up the above position. Thanks.

I don't have any sources. But what's the cost of war? Perhaps a better question would have been 'What's the cost of inaction'

I think that's a fair question, but I daresay that his lib questioners would ignore that and repeat their question.

If you don't mind Perot as a source, I found this:

Most economists feel the cost of the war is far higher than official estimates. For instance, Nobel-Prize winning economist Joseph Stiglitz recently wrote a book titled "The Three-Trillion Dollar War", which takes a complete view at all of the costs and estimates that the final tally will be well over 3 trillion.

I'm sure he has no agenda.

Stiglitz is the most respected and heavily cited economist in the world. He wouldn't risk his reputation on bogus statistics or figures, which seems to be what you're implying.

His reputation is beyond question.

The best argument to bring about with liberals is the fact that alot of the money spent in Iraq eventually ends up back in the US...think about all the defense agencies that have benefitted.

Thanks, I found a counter to Stiglitz thanks to your leads. This forum won't let me post the link however, because I don't have enough posts.
