AGENCE FRANCE-PRESSE — The Pentagon is considering how it might ease the "don't ask, don't tell" law requiring gays to keep quiet about their sexual identity or face expulsion from the military, Defense Secretary Robert Gates said Tuesday...

"One of the things we're looking at is, is there flexibility in how we apply this law," Gates told reporters aboard a military plane.


The Pentagon boss said he discussed the issue last week with US President Barack Obama and that there also has been discussion among senior military and legal counsel about possible changes in how they apply the law, which he described as "very restrictive."

"That's the kind of thing we're looking at -- seeing if there's a more humane way to apply the law until it gets changed."

Again, it's not the job of the military to practice "humane" feel goodism and be careful of everyone's feelings. It's the job of the military to protect this nation and this nation's interests. In doing so, they need to kill people and break things under some of the most heinous circumstances and living conditions. This means morale, cohesion, and commraderie are key, not catering to political correctness.

Then why don't they allow individuals to keep guns in their barracks rooms or ship compartments? They have to keep them in the armory.

And will you have women bunking with men and making the former trust the latter to control themselves? Same principle.

yea, but that all depends on how many wars you have. in the good ole days the army could do without blacks too.

A black has no choice in being black. Being "gay" is behaviour. And there have always been blacks in the military.
