Fahrenheit 911 (Notice the spelling, troll) was just a fantasy of Michael Moore's.

Right troll. I didn't believe nor learn anything watching Fahrenheit 911. I at least give you credit for getting the 911 part right, though.

BTW, did you know that Moore used the Fahrenheit 911 without the permission of Ray Bradbury, who wrote Fahrenheit 451 ?. Typical leftie. He thought he was permitted to use something that wasn't his.

I am seriously considering joining the National Guard. I have all the forms etc. I am just talking with my family and thinking it through right now. The biggest deterent for me not joining right now is the possibility that I might go to war. Still, I support this war and I shouldn't be afraid to go and fight in it.

If you join the NG, you have a 99% chance of being deployed somewhere in the future. With the current size of the military future conflicts like Iraq will call for many to serve.

BTW, you should study Arabic and Chinese.

The military is a great career and participation in either the NG or reserves is a great way to serve your country.

I did watch Moore's FairyTale 911, hes wonderful at presenting what he wants to get across. Very entertaining, not very informative.

I then watched Fahrenhype 911. Not as entertaining, vastly more informative.

Oh, but I forgot that youre following Lefty Retreat Protocol. You make accusations, accurate or not, then fade back into the shadows.

I watched Michael Moore-ons movie. It was great for laughs, but lacked any real facts. It's obvious that the left wing has no concept of reality for following Michael Moore-on.

I suppose that nowadays, cell and satellite phones have changed that.
I never saw a public phone on a ship.

My ship however, had a microwave service for command only.

These navy guys that told me about this were talking about the 60's and 70's (I believe?).

I really don't want my son in the military--but too late, he's aiming for USAF pilot training and will find out next month if he's selected for a pilot slot.

I joke now as an airline pilot about not being in the military, saying I was "in the Air Force and there's a difference" (okay, compared to my compadres in the USMC, USA and USN--there is) but truly, I want him to find something safe and enduring, and the military in general and aviation in particular is not.

Maybe my father was smarter than me--he was also an Air Force aviator, and never tried to dissuade me. Smarter, probably, because he realized that I, like my son, wouldn't be dissuaded anyway. So here comes the third generation--I just wonder if my father worried about me like I worry about my son.

Undoubtedly your father was worried too. And you never stop worrying. That is the nature of what we do. Thank you, your father and your son for your service. Stand tall Dad! Your son is in the United States Air Force!

It's OK to be concerned about your kids being in the military. You wouldn't be a good parent if you weren't.

Not all military aviation is hazardous, nor directly combat-related. Cargo planes, AEW, tankers, and others have a pretty good safety record. For that matter, even though they're high-performance, I understand that T-38 Talons have a remarkable safety record; the Air Force still needs instructors.

Yeah, I know; if he gets that pilot slot, he'll put put on his dream-sheet: "F-15, F-16, F-22, anywhere".

It's funny how you end up somewhere different than where you start out--he's saying now he wants to fly the C-17 or C-5, which means after he finishes he'll end up in the F-35 or something.

You're right--the T-38 is a blast and with a decent ejection seat, it's relatively safe.

There's the UCAs/UCAV spectre over TAC-air now; it really is the future of tactical airpower. Guys (and girls) whose USAF flying career will occur in a trailer outside of Nellis . . . there the off-duty time will be most hazardous!

Thumbs up

For an older jet, the T-38 is one awesome looking plane.

It's been said that since the weakest link in a fighter jet is the pilot under many G's of force. This means that the future fighter pilot will be a guy sitting at a remote control console. This is also why the anti-video game movement has only been partially embraced with urging kids not to forget about physical activity altogether. Where do you think that they are going to find these remote fighter pilots if they don't actually encourage video game playing to some degree?
