Consolidated Immigration Issues Thread

Yet you’re constantly touting what you call the “free market.” With the illegals willing to work for lower wages paid in cash under the table, the “free market” can’t work. Get rid of them and the free market will dictate what MUST be paid to get the work done a business needs to do and there will BE no “labor shortage.” You either believe in a free marketplace or you don’t. Obviously, you DON’T, even while giving it lip service here.

#444

Real Market Wages. What the job is actually worth, not what the law tries to dictate.

The more you regulate labor, the more you raise minimum wage, the more Real market wage and the legal wage separate.

The more charlatans you get trying to fill the gap, both in natives and illegals.

Detroit has massive amounts of illegal business or people being paid under the table; most are not run by immigrants.

#445

Nonsense. Those are jobs that desperate people are willing to perform because they HAVE NO OTHER CHOICE. I’m not talking about the GOVERNMENT mandating wages. I’m talking about the MARKETPLACE mandating them. When you bring in enough desperate people, willing to live elbow to elbow in squalor in order to make more than they can make in their home countries, you’re SKEWING the marketplace in favor of business owners and against American workers. Take the illegals out of the equation and stop (or at least slow down) the growth of the welfare state and wages will rise to what they are “really worth” in the HONEST marketplace.

#446

K, then don’t take that choice from them. You make them worse off.

Let them come here and work the jobs legally. That way, they become better off.

#447

Illegal immigrants are not “cheaper labor”, they cost far more than non subsidized labor; they get hired because businesses have no choice but to support them via their taxes so the only recompense they have is to get some work out of them.

The only way native labor can compete is to go on the dole and work under the table like the illegals do, that is why states that embrace the AS philosophy have high poverty rates and insurmountable Leftist majorities in their political structures.

This is a scam to build a constituency for Leftists and nothing more.

#448

Why do we have a responsibility to make illegals “better off,” AS? Shouldn’t we try to make CITIZENS “better off?”

#449

Singapore doesn’t. Hong Kong doesn’t. Australia doesn’t.

They have freer immigration, and more generous welfare benefits than we do.

Does it look like they’re suffering RET?

Now, they have firmer controls on citizenship; which is why I’m all for putting a stop to automatic birthright citizenship here.

#450

We have a duty to accept as many immigrants who want to better themselves by their own efforts.

That’s what America is; a place where you can pull yourself up by your own bootstraps.

People who want that are already Americans in their hearts.

#451

Except most of THESE illegal immigrants are pulling themselves up by OUR bootstraps.

#452

False; even Milton Friedman called illegals “immigration to jobs”.

If they were getting more from welfare, they would work less. Like certain urban natives do in Chicago and New York.

We should give these people legal access. A guest worker program that incorporates them in some capacity.

#453

BS on a shingle! There’ve been dozens of “studies” proving precisely the opposite of what you claim, AS. Try reading something besides CATO for a change.

#454

Illegals work more than legals and citizens.

The fact that they work more, means they’re getting less in benefits. Populations work less as they’re exposed more and more to welfare.

It’s common sense really; why would you work more if you didn’t need to?

#455

Why is the MEXICAN government giving out pamphlets to these “immigrants” giving them step-by-step instructions on how to apply for U.S. government assistance, AS? Why are tens of thousands of these illegal invaders on OUR dole? A recent study says that every illegal successful in sneaking into the U.S. COSTS U.S. taxpayers an average of $80K per year. Do YOU earn $80K per year tax-free?

#456

LOL, that was our Government Dave.

The Mexican Gov’t pamphlet was about crossing the border safely — and legally I might add. Though they were handing this information out to people they probably suspected were doing it illegally.

#457

It wasn’t OUR government that produced those welfare pamphlets. It was some of those horrible NGO’s that WANT open borders in the US, but it was the Mexican GOVERNMENT that was distributing them to the illegals in those “caravans.”

#458

Article says it was the Department of Agriculture. ¯ \_ (ツ) _/¯

I’ll buy that NGOs do it also, it wouldn’t surprise me.

#459

The swamp, the democrats and the Mexican government all agree with AS.

Does it surprise anyone that 3 entities who despise the United States citizens and Free Markets are all in agreement with AS that we should import as many welfare rat, Leftist voters as possible?

#460

Look, for example, at the obvious, immediate, practical example of illegal Mexican immigration. Now, that Mexican immigration, over the border, is a good thing. It’s a good thing for the illegal immigrants. It’s a good thing for the United States. It’s a good thing for the citizens of the country. But, it’s only good so long as it’s illegal.

– Milton Friedman

Personally, I think it would be better if it was legal immigration. Illegal activity has the unfortunate side effects of being a black market.

#461

Friedman never advocated importing Welfare rats to improve the economy, that is all you and the Democrat party.

#462

Then why is he calling Illegal immigration “good”? And good precisely because it’s illegal?
