Documents Reveal US Army Indoctrinated Soldiers on Dangers of ‘White Privilege’

#1

Judicial Watch announced today that it obtained documents from the United States Department of the Army revealing that in April 2015, 400 soldiers in the 67[SUP]th[/SUP] Signal Battalion at Fort Gordon, Georgia, were subjected to a “white privilege” briefing, including a PowerPoint presentation instructing the attendees: “Our society attaches privilege to being white and male and heterosexual …”
The slideshow also informed the soldiers: “Race privilege gives whites little reason to pay a lot of attention to African Americans.” It alleged that there are unspecified “powerful forces everywhere” keeping different kinds of people from being valued, accepted, and appreciated, but “we act as if it doesn’t exist.” This alleged privilege creates a “yawning divide” in income, wealth, and dignity. The material described a mythical African woman who isn’t aware that she’s black until she comes to America, encounters “white racism” and discovers the U.S. is “organized according to race.”

More proof obama has set race relations back years and is fostering the hate and unrest we are seeing.

“Our society attaches privilege to being white and male and heterosexual…”

Is this a controversial statement? Is there anyone who doesn’t think that a white straight man would be better off than a black gay woman, all other things being equal?

I mean, right off the bat, if you are black, due to historical circumstances beyond your control, you are more likely to be born to parents in poverty, and because of that will generally have worse education, which lowers job prospects and salary. This is due to things that occurred before 1960, and arguably may still happen today. I don’t see how we could say that with those things against you at birth, that the average white person doesn’t have more opportunities at birth than the average black person.

My cousin makes more than most white men I know and see fits your example. Then again I know straight white men that are worse off than most black people I know. To think there is some grand conspiracy against black minorities is ridiculous. My great grandfather(born 1919) raised 7 children 4 of which went on to college and became teachers. The other 3 decided it wan’t for them yet still made something of themselves and all are retired and living well. My grandfather came from nothing but he didn’t let racism nor succumb to the thought today that we are being systematically kept down. My grandfather was a respected man in his area of East Texas(of all places) when he passed away. You will have to forgive me but my family takes your assumptions about black people and lays it low.

Thanks but no thanks Trekky. I can think for myself and do not need white overlords to hold my hand each step of the way. People are what they make themselves.

Physician heal thyself. The only racism I see is that claiming black people need help from the very government that suppressed them for so long. I see what government does for black people and you will excuse me if I do not want their “help”.

#5

Those are some great anecdotes.

Where did I say black people “need help”? I said black people were more likely to be born into poverty, which is unequivocally true. In children under 18 living in poverty, 12.4% are white while 38.2% are black and 35.0% are Hispanic. Those are facts, not opinions. And I don’t know about you, but being 3x less likely to be in poverty as a child due to race right off the bat seems like a huge benefit. Doesn’t mean you or any other black person “needs help”, but it does mean it is tougher for children of black and hispanic parents to succeed, simply because it is harder to succeed in poverty. Going just off statistics, your race is only one of many factors that can give you a slight benefit.

#6

So going off the numbers I remember from the 2010 census(very rough numbers) 4.9mil black people are living in poverty and about 31mil white people are. That’s just children. Forgive me. wealth is passed down. If you do not better yourself to leave something for your children or they choose to squander it away it is their fault not your or the government or the “white man”. White privilege is a scapegoat black people use to get out of responsibility for their actions/inaction.

For you to sit here and lecture me on how my race affects me is laughable. Check your white privilege Trekky.

#7

Again, never said that you shouldn’t better yourself or that wealth shouldn’t be passed down. I said it was more difficult to succeed if you were born in poverty. I’ll take that you don’t disagree given that you didn’t address that point.

Dang those pesky facts I presented. Which part do you disagree with? That white people are far less likely to be porn in poverty? Or that it is harder to succeed if you are born into poverty? These are not controversial positions I’m taking here.

#8

Talk about sterotyping and strawmaning.Everybody is a victim:banghead:

#9

I do not disagree that those born in poverty are far less likely to succeed/given the opportunity to succeed. White people may be less likely to be born into poverty but more white people are born into it. It is hard to argue that white people are privileged when there are nearly as many white people impoverished and on welfare than that of the combined minorities that make up the US. Pesky facts are hard to face.

50 years after minorities gained full rights as citizens and we are as worse off as ever. We have no one but ourselves to blame. You cannot fix poverty with government help. Whether that be special treatment or increasing the minimum wage. I have known people with decent, more than livable incomes that squander it away. The government cannot fix peoples attitudes and habits.

You argue statistics but you are ignoring the social aspect of the problem. We can talk numbers all day long but at the end of the day even if 90% of blacks were born into poverty it would not change the cause of it. If you got some modern day Jim Crow laws that you know about please share them otherwise black people are no different than white people when they were no longer oppressed by Kings and Emperors.

#10

What “facts” are those? You threw out a few numbers that you CLAIM to be “factual,” but, according to the US census bureau are wildly wrong. If you have 100 black people and 38 of them live below whatever the poverty level is, that’s 38%. But if you have 1000 white people and 100 of them are living below whatever the poverty level is, that means that “only” 10% of them are living in poverty–even if there are nearly 3 TIMES as many of them as there are black people “in poverty.”

#11

White privilege is often confused and conflated with racism against blacks. White privilege only applies to a certain type of white person(upper-middle class, well dressed, usually nice looking). I can state for a fact, that everything from store clerks to government workers, treat me wildly differently than they do most other people I see in either direction of me.

Now how much different do they treat the fat guy in a trucker hat and a tank top versus the black guy in sports attire? Meh, not too different. A chunk of it is class, but some of it is flat out race. When I’m in nicer areas, I blend in. People literally gawk at black people in the area, even when they’re dressed the same way.

I’ve had several cops pull me over, and basically apologize to me for wasting my time. Never heard of a black person with this story. Now in fairness, I didn’t get this either, until a few years ago. As I said, it’s not purely race. Most white people do not have any such “privilege”. And I wasn’t born with it(I was poorer than most black people for much of my childhood). But I have it now. It’s just more nuanced than a lot of people seem to think.

#12

Yea, because there’s more of them. That’s why we use percentages to talk about these things honestly, not raw numbers. Are you seriously going to argue that a population with a higher poverty rate is not worse off because they are a minority? Dang that’s cold.

I didn’t realize percentages were so controversial! Dang. Seems like to people here if a certain group had a 100% poverty rate, as long as they’re a small enough minority, they’re better off. It’s literally laughable.

This doesn’t change the facts of the argument. Given two children, one white and one black, who are equally hard working, the white child is more likely to succeed than the black child simply because of the stats attached to their race. Whether or not those stats are the “fault” of black people as a whole or not, that doesn’t change that as a white person, you are more likely to have certain privileges in life than a black person. Which is what the Army was saying, was it not? Not controversial, in my opinion.

#13

Ben Carson and his brother were born into poverty.

#14

Ah the spin doctor is in. This is why I do not argue race issues with those of a different race. You do not get it because your are simply incapable of doing so. When people like me hear “white privilege” I can imagine carebear liberals coming to coddle me.

#15

And completely and utterly stupid to waste time worrying about - much less our MONEY with shoving down the throats of our military, as if something like this was actually really important - to ANYone.
What a stupid waste of time and money. Our military’s job is to kill people and blow stuff up; NOT run around worrying about people’s widdle feewings.
If these guy were at GITMO, those in command would be accused of torturing them. And this time, I’d have to agree!

[/quote]…except that doesn’t always apply. In sub-Saharan Africa, there are almost infinitely more black people than white people born, but VERY few white people who are born into (and live their whole lives IN) “poverty,” while black people–who are a HUGE majority, are almost guaranteed to do so.

I didn’t realize percentages were so controversial! Dang. Seems like to people here if a certain group had a 100% poverty rate, as long as they’re a small enough minority, they’re better off. It’s literally laughable.
Not “better off”, but nothing to change national policies over.

Not “privileges” but encouragement to succeed socially and economically. When the epitome of your definition of “success” is to get your own government teat, you can’t very well blame those who believe that “success” is starting your own business and becoming wealthy for you and your kids living in relative squalor.

#17

Reminds me of an incident a friend of mine mentioned, about a girl who said, “I can’t wait until I’m 18 and have a baby, then I can get my check.”

#18

Seravee, I almost feel like apologizing for Trekky. It’s embarrassing to me. I can only imagine how insanely stupid it must feel for you to have tried to get a simple point across to someone who’s been spoon fed inanities all his life.
It’s a “garbage in; garbage out” mind you’re trying to deal with, and there is no arguing it.
Believe me, it’s just as futile for us white trash.

#19

Which parts do you find controversial, 2cent? Do you disagree with the fact that children born black are more likely to be in poverty than children born white? Or do you disagree that being born into poverty makes it harder to succeed than being born out of it? Because those were the only two points I made. Basic stuff.

And if you don’t disagree with either, then how in the world can one claim that being part of a race that is less likely to be born into poverty is not a benefit? Where exactly is the controversy here? Because I am simply not seeing it. Point out specifically where it is.

#20

It seems to me that the controversy stems from “white priviledge” being a racial accusation. Maybe I’m wrong about the accusation, but that’s my impression.
