Hillsdale College: Taking Back One K-12 School at a Time! (CT, you will LOVE this!)

First, Mods, I’m sorry but I have to C&P the whole message as it doesn’t afford an outside link.
You’ll likely agree it’s worth the bandwidth!!!

You’ve all heard me laud the curriculum of Hillsdale College. NOW they’re taking it one step further with a goal that’ll knock your socks off!

Dear Mrs. [2cent],
You don’t have to look far to see how the progressive movement has affected America’s K-12 schools. America’s children (and future voting citizens) suffer from the policies of an army of bureaucrats whose top-down, one-size-fits-all approaches such as Common Core cripple primary and secondary education in America.
These educational elites have replaced phonics with “whole language,” eliminated memorization from arithmetic, revised and distorted history, and removed or made optional most of the literature taught in K-12 schools.
There is a way to reclaim the American K-12 classroom—and it doesn’t come from the top down. Hillsdale’s Barney Charter School Initiative is answering the urgent call from parents and community leaders across America by helping to found classical K-12 charter schools. Using a classical liberal arts curriculum that teaches the centrality of the Western and American tradition in history, literature, philosophy, and the fine arts, among other things, these schools are teaching young Americans in the time-proven way of American education at its best.

In just five years, this initiative has helped found 13 schools—with a goal of 50 by 2022. It’s transforming education, one school at a time. Listen to one of the principals of these charter schools: Our students revel in reading the classics. Our children recite poetry, discuss great works of literature, learn to do complex calculations in their heads, and take Latin starting in the sixth grade.

Watch this video to learn more about this work to revive and recover our public schools. See how you can help teach future citizens the history of our great nation and the knowledge and skills they will need to be virtuous and patriotic Americans.

Wow. I thought people would be excited about this. Imagine, somebody is actually DOING SOMETHING about the horrid school system in the U.S.!
Going back to the basics of phonics, math by rote, and setting high standards for the students.

It’s GREAT!!!

Don’t you think so, too?

Yeah, it is great. No doubt. I am just waiting for the gooberment to come for them. No good deed goes unpunished.

Hillsdale College accepts NO government funding for that very reason. None. Zero. Zilch.

It is a MOST EXCELLENT COLLEGE! If you know of anyone headed in the direction of choosing a college, I would HIGHLY recommend checking them out.
NO student is allowed graduation without a firm knowledge of the Constitution.

Liberals/progressives/socialists etc will find some reason to demonize this venture and try their utmost to see that the gov’t manages to insert it’s greedy paws by some nefarious means.:firing:

[/quote]I am all for it, but beware, the gooberment will find some loop hole or condition to exploit. I’m sorry for being a stick in the mud, but whenever I see good people doing good things, I become immediately anxious that the powers that be will be along soon to put a stop to it. Look at Planned Parenthood and the Christian Bakers.

Oh, will you people quit being so negative!!!

Hillsdale College

Hillsdale College was founded as Michigan Central College in Spring Arbor, Michigan, in 1844. Nine years later it moved to Hillsdale and assumed its current name. As stated in its Articles of Association, the College undertakes its work “grateful to God for the inestimable blessings resulting from the prevalence of civil and religious liberty and intelligent piety in the land, and believing that the diffusion of sound learning is essential to the perpetuity of these blessings.”

Hillsdale’s modern rise to prominence occurred in the 1970s. On the pretext that some of its students were receiving federal loans, the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare attempted to interfere with the College’s internal affairs, including a demand that Hillsdale begin counting its students by race. Hillsdale’s trustees responded with two toughly worded resolutions: One, the College would continue its policy of non-discrimination. Two, “with the help of God,” it would “resist, by all legal means, any encroachments on its independence.”

Following almost a decade of litigation, the U.S. Supreme Court decided against Hillsdale in 1984. By this time, the College had announced that rather than complying with unconstitutional federal regulation, it would instruct its students that they could no longer bring federal taxpayer money to Hillsdale. Instead, the College would replace that aid with private contributions.

Hillsdale continues to carry out its original mission today, both in the classroom and nationwide, through its many outreach programs, including its monthly speech digest, Imprimis. A prayer written in the Bible that was placed inside the 1853 cornerstone of Central Hall reflects its continuing commitment: “May earth be better and heaven be richer because of the life and labor of Hillsdale College.”

Well, I apologize for cheesing your grits, but I cannot help it. Hillsdale is on Obozo’s hit list. He says they are not a real college. Mark my words, the gooberment will go after them, in time.

This is wonderful and I am very familiar with Hillsdale College. As I have said numerous times before, the only thing that is going to save education in this country is to abolish public schools, teacher federations & unions, DEA, and all the rest of the tentacles that have choked the brains out of our children for the past 50 years. The answer is: A CLASSICAL EDUCATION. The departments of education at colleges and universities have to be replaced with classical education particularly the Socratic Method. Nothing else will save our education system.

Thanks, Tiny, for bringing this to our attention.

Marva Collins’ school did not accept one penny from the government for that very reason. Once the government gets it’s nasty fingers into anything, it turns it into muck. Marva played that before and knew it would not work. Her schools managed to operate for over 30 years without a single penny from the government. It can be done. It’s not easy, but the rewards are incredible.

Let them say what they want. They cannot do a thing to Hillsdale and other schools like it. They might try, but as long as the school remains unintimidated, the gooberment can do nothing except threaten.

Oops! I meant you, 2cent! I guess I got taken up with Tiny’s posts! Excellent article, 2cent!
