Ill. Senate Committee Passes Gun Restrictions

In a party-line vote, the committee approved measures that would ban the possession, delivery, sale and transfer of **semiautomatic **handguns and rifles, but would allow current owners to keep them. High-capacity ammunition magazines would be restricted.

Quinn said he is very pleased the Public Health Committee took the step.
“There is no place in Illinois for weapons designed to rapidly fire at human targets at close range,” he said.

Really, semiautomatic is the target now? Can’t wait till we’re banished to flintlocks. Stupid Illinois Dems. Maybe the committee will be overridden, but I doubt it.

And what? Really no place in Illinois designed to rapidly fire at human targets at close range? What in the world does that mean? And these people have power. Ugh.

Semiauto rifles have been targeted since the Stockton shooting in '89.

Bill was pulled.

They haven’t passed anything. It has passed a committee there is a difference, and the title is sensationalist. It hasn’t even reached the Senate, let alone the House. It has been proposed, that is all.

The measure generally bans possession, delivery, purchase and sale of military-style, semi-automatic assault weapons. People who already have the weapons would not be required to give them up.

It says nothing about handguns.
