James O Brien

Just wondered if anyone else ever watches him on youtube for a taste of UK politics?

James O’Brien reflects on the presidency of Donald Trump | LBC - YouTube

Nope. O’Brien strikes me as someone who is easily confused about the difference between journalism and theatre. I’d lean more towards Andrew Marr and Andrew Neil when it comes to critique of UK politics.

Well he does do a talk show with callers, so there is that

I live in the UK, although I’m an American. (And how many times have I had to tell Brits not to call me a ‘Yank’! My ancestors killed Yankees by the thousands!)

They’ve got some pretty smart folks. Andrew Marr is good – I knew of him when he was a Trotskyist at Cambridge. He’s hard to pin down politically now … there’s something to offend everyone in what he has said and done, which increases my confidence in him [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Marr] Andrew Neil is an iconoclast, who enjoys going against the consensus view regardless – so beware! (But he endorsed the disastrous consensus view with regard to our ability to bring decency to Iraq and Afghanistan on the point of a bayonet , using the usual macho arguments which appeal to stupid males who doubt their own manhood.) [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Neil] Note that the Wiki article is written by a sniffy liberal, so take it with a grain of salt.

British commentators I like a lot include: Matt Ridley, for science and technology [ http://www.mattridley.co.uk/blog/]; Douglas Murray, for everything.[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Douglas_Murray_(author)] (As usual, the Wiki article is written by a lefty who has been taken over by the spirit of Joseph McCarthy.); Toby Young (https://www.spectator.co.uk/article/my-advice-for-the-next-free-speech-champion-) … a great champion of free speech, which is under relentless attack from the Left in the UK as it is everywhere (except in Communist countries, where the Left have taken full power and thus have achieved their goal of suppressing it entirely and so no longer need to attack it); and Rod Liddle, (https://www.spectator.co.uk/article/where-will-vaccine-passports-take-us-).

All these people are worth reading.
