Liberals continue their advance to destroy the education system

From an email I was sent:

Oak Park is a nice suburb of Chicago.

The local Oak Park and River Forest High School has many distinguished alums and has won awards for being one of the best high schools in the country. The adminstrators have decided to ‘go woke’ and implement “social justice” in how students are marked by teachers.

Oak Park and River Forest High School administrators will require teachers next school year to adjust their classroom grading scales to account for the skin color or ethnicity of its students.

School board members discussed the plan called “Transformative Education Professional Development & Grading” at a meeting on May 26, presented by Assistant Superintendent for Student Learning Laurie Fiorenza.

In an effort to equalize test scores among racial groups, OPRF will order its teachers to exclude from their grading assessments variables it says disproportionally hurt the grades of black students. They can no longer be docked for missing class, misbehaving in school or failing to turn in their assignments, according to the plan.

Once more we see “progressives” implementing policies that lower educational standards for Black students, which hurts them in the long run.

This is really a re-implementation of a “separate but unequal” education. The Black students might feel better about their faux grades now, but it will haunt them for the rest of their lives. The “progressives” have managed to take education back to 1894 when “separate but equal” was the law of the land.

As an afterthought, it really makes you think that these people want to keep Black people down so that they control them. If you ruin their education in what was once an elite school, you can add to that the crumby schools that have kept them down for years.

You can apply that theory to well-off liberal/leftists in general, with respect to state education for the classes below them.

The best concrete example is Michaela Community School in the UK: a ‘free school’, not under control of the local council or teachers union, it takes in ordinary kids (mainly non-white), and gives them a terrific education … by old-fashioned methods. They do extremely well in exams, right up there with expensive private schools.

The Left hate it like poison, and the Conservative Party Members of Parliament ignore it – they send their kids to private schools.

But … I don’t think this is a conscious policy with them. It’s just the dead hand of ideology.

I have a friend, a sensible liberal, who teaches law in the US. I told him about Michaela School. He looked it up on Wiki and said, 'Oh, no big deal … they just teach to the test." !!! So state schools where kids routinely fail their final exams are better because at least they don’t ‘teach to the test’!

Once an ideology has got its grip on you, that’s the end of you. No amount of empirical evidence can shake the True Believer. These peoples political ancestors believed that Stalin was building a New Society, a True Democracy, and no amount of firing squads and gulags and famines could change their minds. Only when Stalin’s successor Krushchev admitted the truth, did some of them re-think.
