Its called “buy-in”, Pete.
I owned a offroad shop focused on the Jeep market. and you can take what I am about to write and change a few words and it applies to almost anything.
The Jeep rag comes out with a review on a new product, and its the greatest thing since night baseball and pull top cans.
Folks rush out and drop $7k large buying and installing a Majic Offroad Lift kit.
9 mo later they show up at my shop ( they have been to all the others) and talk about the vibration and steering issues and can I fix it? Yea, I can fix it, first lets get rid of the Majic kit you bought because that is the problem.
Impossible, can’t be, I paid $7k for it, the magazine said it was the 7th wonder of Jeep parts and no trail shall deny my Jeep evermore.
Sorry Charlie, but as you know the company is now out of business, it was a failure, bad idea, wrong engineering approach and cannot will not work.
But BUT all the mags said it was great!
Sure they did, along with a FULL PAGE ad by the company that ran in the next 3 issues. Oh and let me ask, have you ever seen a article in any of the mags that sez, we reviewed this and its a piece of junk, don’t buy it?
I watch as Charlie drives away and hear him cursing his Jeep and blaming all the shops for not fixing his problem and now mad at me for telling him the truth and refusing to take his money to fix what can’t be fixed!
I saw this time and time again over my many years of off roading and I to when I was young and not an engineer or even a very smart guy blamed everyone but the reality of the product was crap and I had bought into it.
Therein lies the problem. When you buy in facts and truth suddenly get in the way reality. And in order to change your mind, you have to accept you were wrong and that is the most difficult part. When you become wedded to a concept its hard to accept the fact that its not the end all be all, so you have to attack the other idea. This is what is happening now withe the liberals, they cannot accept therefore they must attack Trump to continue their as he must be the problem, not their ideology, or Hillary or socialism etc etc…
