NSA Is Wired Into Top Internet Companies’ Servers, Including Google and Facebook | Threat Level | Wired.com

As if news of the National Security Agency collecting phone records on millions of Americans wasn’t enough, a new report reveals that the NSA and FBI are directly tapped into central servers at nine U.S. internet firms, in order to provide constant monitoring of audio, video, photos, emails and documents as well as connection logs.
The companies whose servers are being mined are reportedly Microsoft, Yahoo, Google, Facebook, PalTalk, AOL, Skype, YouTube, and Apple. The classified program, dubbed PRISM, has been in operation since 2007 and has been a leading source of intelligence fed to the president in his daily intelligence briefings, according to theWashington Post, which broke the story at the same time as the Guardian today.
The Post notes that PalTalk hosted significant traffic during the Arab Spring and during the ongoing Syrian civil war.
Microsoft was the first to cave into the requests in 2007, though Apple resisted for five years before joining the club last year. The program is supposed to focus on data pertaining to foreigners. But search terms the analysts use to pull data are only designed to be at least 51 percent accurate in determining a target’s “foreignness.” This means a lot of U.S. content is bound to get caught in the net. But training materials obtained by the Post aren’t too concerned about accidental collections of U.S. content, calling it “nothing to worry about” and telling analysts to simply report those accidental collections in a quarterly report.
The program is a cousin to another bulk-collection program code-named BLARNEY, which collects internet “metadata” — address packets, device signatures and other information — that roars along the internet’s backbone.

Not too worried; he doesn’t attend them anyway…

(That was a joke; it is not my intention to trivialize the matter.)

Thing is, it’s not exactly “news.”

No, Obama, YOUR Benghazi slaughter is NOT going to go away.

But you can keep trying if you like. It’s faintly amusing.

#4

But, but, they’re keeping us safe, Maylar!

The turnip crop in West Mayfield will be bountiful this year.

#6

Hey qix. long time no see.

#7

Yeah, got sick of wading through the leftist manure that was piling up here. Hope all is well with you and yours?

#8

Hey Qixl! Where have you been?? Nice to see you here again!

#9

You missed a really bizarro experience with a jehovah witness newbie. Check out the Introduction thread for a member named “Alter2Ego”. She supposedly quit, but I have a feeling we’ll see her again. Anyway, welcome back!

#10

Yeah, it’s good to see you.

#11

If you take a potato and poke out its eyes will it still be able to see?

#12

Mr. Potato Head in Toy Story 2 couldn’t…

#13

We warned everyone that the powers given to Bush were going to be used by the next administration.

#14

Did you just blame Bush and the Constitution for Benghazi?

#15

Yeah, leftist manure does get way thick on this site.

Doing well. My wife just completed chemo and things look good for her.

#16

Twice, at least!

This country is quickly becoming a nanny state. Pretty soon you won’t be able to take a dump without the local authorities knowing all the details.

#18

Well, I for one would be happy to send a report with photos to BO…

The NSA is taking away our freedoms, watching what we do on the internet of millions of Americans is pathetic.
