Pathway to citizenship could increase Obamacare cost up to $300 billion over a decade
Thanks Marco Rubio!!!

Any immigration package in which current illegal immigrants are made eligible for ObamaCare — in the form of either exchanges or Medicaid — could increase costs to the federal government by between $120 billion to $200 billion in its first decade, according to internal calculations by the Republican side of the Senate Budget Committee that were obtained exclusively by The Daily Caller.

GOP Senate Budget Committee staffers explained to TheDC that the estimates assume that the law’s provision capping total spending on exchange subsidies, which is set to begin in 2019, is enforced.

However, should the provision fall by the wayside, as some analysts believe it could, the staffers estimate the cost of Obamacare could increase between $210 billion to $300 billion over the next 10 years.

“Access limited to lawful residents. If an individual is not, or is not reasonably expected to be for the entire period for which enrollment is sought, a citizen or national of the United States or an alien lawfully present in the United States, the individual shall not be treated as a qualified individual and may not be covered under a qualified health plan in the individual market that is offered through an Exchange.”

Saying illegal immigrants will gain access to Obamacare is speculative at best, and assumes that nobody will check the citizenship of someone already receiving health benefits. Bottom line, the bill itself says they are not eligible, and the article admits itself that it would only be possible to get if they already had Medicaid or some other insurance, and even that is only a possibility, not a guarantee.

Ummmm…an “alien lawfully present in the USA” is ELIGIBLE according to your quote Trekky. Won’t those on a path to citizenship meet THAT requirement?
Those with GREEN CARDS already do.

How do “current illegal immigrants”, from the article, meet the description of aliens “lawfully present in the United States”? That’s what the whole article is referring to “illegal immigrants”. Those wouldn’t be those who are here “lawfully”.

>illegal
>lawful
