Saturday Night Card Game (NBC gets an itsy, bitsy taste of its own medicine)

NBC is being accused of racism because it ran a promo for a new series featuring a monkey after a segment in which Bob Costas talked about Gabby Douglas’ Gold Medal in gymnastics.

I’d like to feel sorry for NBC for coming under such a plainly false accusation of racial intent. Except it’s what NBC does to others all the time, including when dealing with Mitt Romney:

If one wanted to break new ground in hypersensitivity, one could also delve into the recently evidenced antipathy of many sports “journalists” for openly Christian athletes. But the simplest explanation (if one is needed!) - stupidity - is probably the best and most apt. Nevertheless, it is very satisfying to see NBC being bit by the monster they have for decades helped nurture! Rather than looking into how that commercial got scheduled at that moment, NBC should be asking themselves, “Whose bright idea was it to use an ape in an ad to portray a gymnast?”

Your last point is spot on. Bright ideas…

Sometimes satire, hyperbole and buffoonery are incisive; sometimes, just stupid. This case, compounded by the timing, was just stupid.
