The public schools have deliberately kept the country illiterate for 80 years. The tide is turning. For one thing, the New York Times finally came out for phonics.

(Many parents start reading at ages 3 or 4. The main thing is to get them reading before they go to public school, where in many cases, sight-words are still taught. Please pass this notice to any friends with young children.)
