The Opportunity of Testing

#1

Genesis 22:1-18

Those who trust God to do what He says also trust God and do what He asks. When we are tested it verifies the depth of our allegiance to God. God’s tests may come unannounced but they are not unexpected. God’s tests may appear unthinkable but they are not unreasonable. God’s tests may seem impossible but they are not unbearable. When we are tested, it proves the depths of our obedience to God. Obedience expresses the faith of a devoted worshipper. Faith responds with no hesitance and without questioning. Obedience expresses the faith of a dependent follower. When we are tested it displays the depth of the faithfulness of God. God displayed His faithfulness in the provision of a sacrifice. God displayed His faithfulness in the promise of His blessings. In Genesis 22:1-18, there is a fine example of an opportunity of testing in the history of Abraham and Isaac. (Hebrews 11:17-19) (Hebrews12:1-3) (Job 23:10) (1 Peter 1:7) (1 Peter 4:12) (Proverbs 3:5-6) (John 8:5-6) (James 2:17-23) (James 1:2-3) (1 Peter 1:7)

I have to disagree on one point. Absolute faith does not hesitate. But few have it, and lesser faith is still faith, even though we should seek to cultivate it.
